Red vs Blue vs Near-Infrared: Choosing the Right Wavelength

Different wavelengths penetrate to different depths and affect different targets. The three most common options are blue, red, and near infrared.

Blue light 415 to 470 nm focuses on acne causing bacteria on the surface. It is best for active breakouts and oily skin, and can be paired with gentle cleansing.

Red light 630 to 660 nm supports circulation and collagen for tone and fine lines. It is a balanced option for long term skin quality and redness.

Near infrared 810 to 850 nm goes deeper for recovery and inflammation support. It is invisible to the eye and often paired with red light.

If you have one clear goal, a single wavelength device can work well. For mixed goals, a combo device keeps the routine simple while covering more needs.

  • Acne: blue or blue plus red.
  • Anti aging: red or red plus near infrared.
  • Recovery or soreness: near infrared or a red plus near infrared panel.

Distance and time matter as much as color. Always follow the device guidance and avoid longer sessions than recommended.
